Bring on the beach volleyball!
The time has come to push the button on the Poreč Major 2016!
We’ve already had an Olympic captaincy decided and given you a guide on what you might expect to hear on court but today the Major motors into action with a busy day of qualification that will see eight women’s teams advance into the Main Draw which gets under way tomorrow.
The first round of women’s qualification matches kick-starts the tournament with teams from Czech Republic, Denmark, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Brazil, Slovakia, Italy, Holland, Spain and South African vying for a place in the second phase of qualifying.
There is one women’s team from Croatia in action, too, as Stela/Klaric take on Matic/Milosevic of Serbia in what promises to be a tantalizing early taster of the tournament at 14:00 on Court 3.
Top seeds in qualifying are German duo Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude and they receive a bye into round two with hopes of making it through to the Main Draw. They will play the winner of the match between Rehackova/Dostalova (CZE) and Sondergard/Trans (DEN).
If you have paid our social media channels a visit yesterday, you will have noticed that we’ve had some beach volleyball action already! Yes, there were three country quota matches in the men’s competition played at our stunning seaside location, where teams from Austria, Brazil and Norway went head-to-head. The winners, the results of which you can read here, will progress into the qualification stage which begins later on Tuesday afternoon.
With all these games in action tomorrow do not forget we have every inch of sand covered this week, with live streaming of ALL matches on our wonderful website. And if that wasn’t enough we’ll also be live courtside tweeting and snapchatting on @SwatchMajors – all for your pleasure!
We’ll keep you right up-to-date with who’s beating who on what promises to be a fabulous first day of the tournament!
Bring it on!
Thank you from the heart!
