Czech Republic guaranteed a spot in Saturday’s semifinal
Two of the top teams in Czech beach volleyball will go head-to-head for a place in Saturday’s Poreč Major semifinals after impressive victories on Friday morning.
Kristyna Kolocova and Michala Kvapilova pulled off an incredible result by defeating Olympic champion Laura Ludwig and her stand-in partner, indoor star Maggie Kozuch. The Czechs have also beat last season’s Poreč gold medalists Laboureur/Sude this week and are unbeaten in four matches.
“It was awesome!” Kristyna told us afterwards. “It’s necessary to say that Laura isn’t in the best shape after her injury and Maggie isn’t her usual partner so it made it a little bit easier for us. However, we played well and we’re happy with our win.”
Barbora Hermannová and Marketa Slukova – the stars of our Divine Set photoshoot for the tournament – maintained their unbeaten record here by beating Finland’s Lahti/Lehtonen in straight sets, 21-18, 21-19.
The two Czech teams will meet for the third time – and the second time in Swatch Major Series history – with Barbora and Marketa holding a 2-0 lead in the head-to-head record. Last season they won in the pool play at the A1 Major Klagenfurt and triumphed in the final of the European Championships in June.
Watch BeachStream to find out which Czech team will advance to the last four at 4pm CET and don’t forget you can watch all eight of the teams’ matches from this week on our on-demand service. Enjoy!
Thank you from the heart!
