Women's preview: It's make-or-break time!
For the women, it all comes down to today. By sundown, one team will be wearing the first Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series gold ever awarded.
Canadian fans are overjoyed: Not only is Saturday's action in Poreč the first time Canada has ever had a women's team in a Grand Slam Semi Final, but there are two teams to root for! The 18th-seed Canadian duo of Kristina Valjas and Jamie Broder are taking on the top-seeded Larissa Franca and Talita De Rocha Antunes of Brazil at noon CET, while in a battle of two underdogs, the 22nd-seed Australians Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy (who is also making her first appearance in an FIVB final four) will go up against Canada's 17th-seeded Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan at 1:00 CET.
Medal matches follow, and at least one team of Canadian women is guaranteed the country's first podium in a major FIVB tournament. But how the placements – and the Olympic qualifying points – will shake out is anyone’s guess. The atmosphere in Center Court will be electric today!
